sharing recipes from one generation to the next
Our time in the Kimberley region of Western Australia has sadly come to an end. Each day has had a wow factor of some sort. We put both ourselves and our equipment to the test and we’ve remained unscathed. The van and truck are coated in red dust, so ingrained they may never look their city selves again, but we’ll wear that dirt like a badge of honour. My fellow travellers and I take with us wonderful memories, 2450 photos, and a huge sense of satisfaction at having seen, explored and experienced the remote Kimberleys.
In the passed 58 days we’ve driven 8000 kilometres. Facing the reality that we are still a long way from home and our trip days are numbered, we’ve begun the inevitable southward drive. There is still so much of the north of Western Australia for us to see though it will be a slow journey until we have no choice but to bolt for home.
Western Australia is renowned for the beauty and abundance of it’s springtime wildflowers. As we drive into the Pilbara region, we are treated to a visual feast, vast drifts of mauve, purple, pink, grey, white, yellow and orange blooms offset by rich red soil, grey green spinifex grass and white barked ghost gums. Yet again I am astaounded by the beauty of the landscape.
Australian natives flowers are not known for being big and showy, small complex forms are most common, but when hundreds of shrubs simultaneously burst into bloom, the affect is spectacular.
