sharing recipes from one generation to the next
Our journey south toward home has taken us into the mid west of Western Australia. While renowned as Australia’s wheat belt the region is also the centre of spectacular springtime wild flower displays.
The roadside verges along our route into the station campsite near Kalbarri was a multilayered picture. On top, a storey of pink spiky emu tree, yellow plumed grevillea and brilliant orange Hooker’s Banksia, a middle layer of pink thrytopmene, white Geraldton wax and bright yellow wattles shaded carpets of yellow pompon everlasting daisies and pink parakeelya. The bush was alive with the buzz of bees and bird calls, the large yellow tailed black cockatoos cracking banksia nuts demanding our attention with their raucous squawking.
Enticed by the route known a the “Wildflower Way” we headed inland from the coast where numerous conservation parks have been created to protect the unique seasonal flora. The following photos are a small sample of what we saw.
